A lot of people who travels to Vietnam does not know about the city of Hai Phong. Unfortunately, this little gem of a city gets forgotten. It may be because it’s so close to the capital city Hanoi and a lot of people chooses to go here instead, or it can also be because the pace is slower here and there are less tourist sights to visit. But nevertheless, it is still a captivating city that has a lot to offer. If you are going to or from Halong Bay to Hanoi for example, you should stop by here. It has a more local vibe to it and many people say that Hai Phong is what Hanoi used to be like many years ago.

If you like good food and finding nice cafés, this is also a good place to be at. You will find many youths in cafés after school or adults going at their lunch break to indulge on a good cup of coffee. The café scene has grown immensely here in the past years which means that there’s been a growing number of cafés as well. Here are some of the best cafés in Hai Phong (at least according to me).

Café 1986

Arguably one of the prettiest cafés in Hai Phong. It almost feel like you have entered a greenhouse! And it is probably that vibe they want you to have. Come here for some of the best black coffee you can find in Hai Phong. You also have iced coffee for the warmer days. The interior is incredible and if you are looking for a photogenic place – this is it. This is one of the hidden gems in Hai Phong which is a must go to if you are a coffee fan and you want to go to a place where you can sit for hours and talk to a friend.

Cộng Cà Phê

This beautiful café will remind you of the cafés in Europe. The interior is gorgeous and the ambiance is cozy. This place can get quite full though so make sure that you come in a good time if you want a seat. Locals love their coffee and this one does not disappoint. They also have some sweet desserts if you like something with your coffee or tea. It’s also quite a nice place to go to if you need to study or work from your computer.

Terraza Coffee & Bakery

Are you looking for something that is open 24/7? Well, this is the place for you then! No matter the time, you can come here for some sweet pastries or a nice cup of coffee. Matcha has become a very popular thing in Vietnam as well and here is a place where you can get a matcha latte. This place is definitely a place to go if you have a sweet tooth. If the weather allows you, check out the terrace and sit there during night while the lights are on.

Quán Cà Phê Ao

If you are a nature lover and you love green scenery – you have to check out this café! It is one of the most unique cafés you will find in Hai Phong. Sip on a delicious iced coffee while you sit outside in the garden area. It is a very charming place where locals love to come, and foreigners as well when they’ve found their way to Hai Phong. A must-go-to if you are in town. Not only is it pretty to look at, but the coffee is – of course – amazing.

And of course there are plenty of more cafés in Hai Phong and it would take days to try them all. But these are some of my favorites that I highly suggest you to try. Hai Phong might be overlooked now, but it will be a favorite in the future. If you want to immerse yourself in the Vietnamese culture, come to this unique city where you can get a glimpse of the Vietnamese people’s everyday-life. Hai Phong is a place to count on and with more and more beautiful cafés opening up – it will only be a matter of time before it gets taken over by coffee lovers from all over the world!
