Mui Ne: More than just sand dunes

Wonderful Mui Ne in the south of Vietnam is a spectacular pit stop on your vacation. Not only do you have tropical climate almost all year round, you can also enjoy the weather laying on the beach in Mui Ne. The good thing about Mui Ne is that it has its own microclimate, so it is a bit drier here than in most places.

Remember to apply for a Vietnam visa in good time. The most popular way is to get a Visa on Arrival, since you can do it online from your computer. You can also go to the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate, but the process can take a longer time. There is also the third option, E-Visa, which is only eligible for certain countries.

This pretty little town in the southern coastline is the perfect spot for anyone who prefers a bit of a laid back atmosphere. Only a 4 hour train ride away from the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City, you will feel like you entered a completely new world here. The town itself is quite small, but has a lot of character. It is especially popular amongst Russian travellers, but you will meet people from all over the world. Although the town itself is quite small, you will find a ton of activities to do here. You have probably heard of the beautiful sand dunes, which is rare to find in Asia, but there is much more to Mui Ne than meets the eye. Let’s take a look at what else you can do here.

1. Kitesurfing

When you go down to the beaches, you will notice the many kite surfers in the water. This is a very popular sport in Mui Ne, much thanks to its perfect wind and waves. There are a lot of places where you can rent equipment to go kitesurfing, but if you are a beginner and just learning, you can also take classes here. Once you are exhausted and satisfied, you can lean back in the warm sand and relax. The white sand beach stretches as far as the eye can see, so you can mos definitely find a private spot if you go looking.

2. Watching the sunset and sunrise on the beach

In Mui Ne, you can never get enough beach time! Most hostels and hotels are located very close by to the beach, so you can just walk down in time for sunrise or, if you are more of a night owl, sunset. Either way, you should not miss watching the sun rays light up the beach with its bright orange, pink and yellow colors. It is quite the view.

3. Red and White Sand Dunes Tour

You could do this independently if you have your own means of transportation, but going with a tour is highly recommended. It is both affordable and easy – no need to plan anything on your own, just go with the flow and meet some nice people along the way! You will be picked up quite early from your accommodation so you can be by the white dunes just in time for sunrise. Once you sit down and watch the sun rise from behind the dunes, you will have an unforgettable memory. After sunset, you can go sandboarding if you would like to. This fun activity is a fun way to start the day. After watching the white sand dunes, your tour guide will most likely take you to the red dunes, which is a bit smaller but still spectacular. You will almost forget that you are in Asia.

4. Fish Market

Most people either go here on the sand dunes tour early in the morning with their group, or you can also go here independently whenever. The best thing though is to go here in early morning.

5. Fairy Spring

If you want to do a bit more of an unusual hike, Fairy Spring is the place where you walk through the stream of water flowing along the brown mountain landscape. It will eventually lead you to a waterfall, where you should have your camera ready. You can leave your shoes with your guide or at home, since you will be walking through water. It makes for quite a nice hike when the sun is warm and you need to cool down for a bit.

6. Grab a beer or two at a bar

What better way to end your day than by having a cold drink in your hand? By the main beach you will see many bars and restaurants lined up, so you can pick and choose. One of the most popular bars in Mui Ne is Dragon Beach Bar, where you can sit on bean bags by the beach. It becomes quite crowded later at night, so if you want to socialise and dance, this is the place to be.

Sun, beach, kitesurfing, good food and sand dunes all awaits you in the south of Vietnam! If you want to make sure you have good weather on your vacation, this is probably your safest card. Come to Mui Ne for a beautiful and authentic vacation, where you can just sit back and relax.
