How to apply
Apply Vietnam Visa Online (Vietnam e-visa) for citizens of Malaysia

Are you starting to plan a trip abroad? Is Vietnam one of the destinations on your list? Then you will be happy to know that as a citizen of Malaysia, you are not required to get a visa if you stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 30 days. However, if you do plan on staying for longer, then you will need to get a visa.

Acquiring a Vietnam Visa is easy and you have two options to choose from: either you apply for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) or you go to your local Vietnamese Embassy. Since there is so much to do in Vietnam and so much to see, we do recommend you to stay for longer than 1 month so you get the chance to see both the north and the south properly and don’t have to rush on your trip. It is so affordable to be in Vietnam and traveling has never been easier!

I heard about Vietnam e-visa. Can I apply for Vietnam e-visa if I am citizens of Malaysia? (No, Malaysian citizens are not eligible for Vietnam e-visa)

From 01 Feb 2019, under Decision 17/2019/NĐ-CP of the Government of Vietnam, there are 80 countries which citizens of it are eligible to apply online for an e-visa of Vietnam online (e-visa is a single entry valid for staying 30 days). We check but not found Malaysia national in this list, therefore, Malaysian citizens should choose two options below to get a visa for Vietnam

If you go for option number 1 – visa on arrival, you will only need your computer (or phone) and internet. You can apply for this from everywhere in the world – Malaysia, Cambodia, New Zealand… You name it! It is easy, fast, effective and you don’t have to send any important documents anywhere. What you need to do is fill out an Online Application Form, wait for your confirmation letter and you will normally receive an Approval Letter within 2 working days. When everything is done, don’t forget to print out the finalized document, bring it to the airport in Vietnam and get it stamped by one of the immigration officers.

This visa will help you get a multi-entry visa, so you can visit other countries and still be able to come back to Vietnam without having to apply for a visa again. However, be noted that if you do apply for a visa on arrival, you can only enter Vietnam by air. So, if you are planning on coming with car, bus, train, et cetera, this visa will not be a good option for you.

If you go for option number 2, which is to apply for a visa through a Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia, you will be instructed step by step on how to apply for a visa there. You will need to come to the embassy at least two times. The first time, you will submit the required documents, and the second time you have to pick up your Vietnam visa. This can be a bit more inconvenient if you don’t live close by for example, and it also takes a bit longer to apply for and receive the visa. However, it is one of the options so if this fits you better, you will be glad to know that it’s one of the choices.

There are many things that attracts internationals to come to Vietnam – many even move here because they love the way of life! The food scene is great, culture is fascinating, the people are very friendly (most of the time!), there are many expats who lives there so you will always find international friends, landscape is magnificent and there is an abundance of beaches, where you can lay down and relax on one of the many hot days.

Vietnam mainly receives tourists from other Asian countries, probably because of the proximity.  It is also a great place to start traveling from if you wish to visit the rest of Southeast Asia. You can easily take the train, bus or flight to the neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Cambodia.

So, what are you waiting for? Head down over to warm and sunny Vietnam, where amazing food and beautiful beaches awaits! If you are tempted to stay for longer than 30 days, then don’t forget to apply for a Vietnam Visa so you won’t have any problems at the airport.
